The Storytellers

By Andrew Raney, (Salmo, BC, 2008)

RCAC’s first permanent sculpture was commissioned in 2008 from local artist Andrew Raney and found a home on the lawn in front of Rossland’s Public Library.

Ravens are plentiful in the mountains and valleys surrounding Rossland. They are crafty, playful and intelligent birds. In First Nations mythology, Raven is often portrayed as the symbol of energy, healing, power, courage and transformation; hence we have chosen five ravens to symbolize each of these characteristics.

We have chosen Andrew’s Ravens because they are approachable, playful and reflective of our natural environment. This installation brings the beauty of our natural environment into our downtown area.

This sculpture was made possible with the support of the Province of British Columbia through the Ministry of Tourism, Sports and the Arts, and the assistance of the Assembly of British Columbia Arts Councils.
