DESCRIPTION:The Rossland Council for Arts and Culture Performance Series presents \nRoyce Rich accompanied by Joseph Stacy\nSaturday\, December 14th \nDoors at 7pm\, Start 7:30pm\nRossland Miners Hall \nWorld renowned violinist\, Royce Rich\, is establishing himself as one of Canada’s up-and-coming concert artists.  In July 2021\, he was listed as one of CBC Music’s “Top 30 Under 30 Hot Musicians” for the release of his self-produced debut Spotify album of show pieces entitled Short Stories. In July 2015\, Royce was awarded the coveted Gabora Prize in Italy at the Casalmaggiore International Festival\, and has since appeared on concert stages as a solo artist and chamber musician across Canada\, the USA\, Italy\, and Germany.  \nHe has performed as guest artist with the Brampton Symphony Orchestra\, Lions Gate Sinfonia Orchestra\, Durham Chamber Orchestra\, Smazal Chamber Orchestra\, and twice with the Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra. Throughout the summer of 2023\, Royce was co-concertmaster of the National Academy Orchestra – Canada’s top training orchestra for up-coming professional orchestral musicians.   \nOrchestral playing is one of Royce’s first loves. Throughout 2024\, Royce was invited to assume the position of Principal Second Violinist of the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra in Ontario. Royce has also performed as a violinist with the Kingston Symphony Orchestra\, Prince George Symphony Orchestra\, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra\, the National Academy Orchestra\, and The Royal Conservatory Orchestra.  \nSpecially memorable compliments come from venerated violinist\, Prof. Shirley Givens from the Juilliard School of Music\, “..you are a very gifted violinist”\, Midori Goto\, “…you have wonderful ears and fingers” and Itzhak Perlman\, “….this kid’s got talent!”. \nRoyce says “the program that the community of Trail and the supporters of the Rossland Arts Council can expect is a classical recital program that will encompass excitement\, thrill and sheer virtuosity featuring show pieces and encore pieces that reflect what the violin is fully capable of demonstrating at the highest level. \nI’m really excited for Joseph to join me at the piano for our concert this December!” \nRich’s Accompanist\, Joseph Stacy\, is an American pianist based on the unceded territories of the Musqueam\, Squamish\, and Tsleil-watuth First Nations in what is now called Vancouver\, BC.  He was awarded the Faculty of Arts Graduate Fellowship to pursue his Master of Music in Piano Performance at the University of British Columbia\, graduating in 2021.  Prior to earning his master’s degree\, he graduated summa cum laude with his Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance/Pedagogy from Ohio University\, where he was also presented with the School of Music’s award for Undergraduate Achievement in Performance (2019). \n  \nAccomplished as a soloist\, collaborator\, and pedagogue\, Stacy’s career has taken him across the U.S.\, Canada\, and Austria.  \n  \nSummer Breeze \nhttps://youtu.be/W7pIyKvQQ5w?si=fpLnGpV_bjUt9lZi \n  \nPaganini’s Caprice No. 24 \nhttps://youtu.be/dhxHTneVnqA?feature=shared \n  \nTwo 45-minute acts with 20-minute intermission \nTickets available online at rosslandartscouncil.com\, or from Out of the Cellar at 2067 Columbia Avenue in Rossland. The Rossland Youth Action Network and Rossland Council for Arts and Culture are thrilled to present a dynamic Youth DJ Workshop on February 23\, 2024\, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Held at the Rossland Youth Action Network\, this workshop offers a unique opportunity for local youth to delve into the world of DJing\, guided by the expertise of renowned DJs AKiiBA and FLUXO. \nLimited spaces are available for this exclusive workshop\, making early registration essential. To secure a spot\, interested participants are encouraged to register promptly with the Rossland Youth Action Network. \nEvent Details: \n– Date: February 23\, 2024 \n– Time: 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm \n– Location: Rossland Youth Action Network \n– Ages: 14 years and up \nParticipants can expect an immersive experience where they will learn the fundamentals of DJing\, from beatmatching to creating seamless transitions. They seamless blend the sounds of jazz\, blues\, rock and soul into a progressive and explosive sonic experience.\n\nWe are honoured and excited to host their Kootenay album release show for their newest album: Swallows.\n\n\nOpening Acts:\n\nLake of the Axe\n\n\nWherever there is injustice\, you will find us. Wherever there is suffering\, we’ll be there. Wherever liberty is threatened\, you will find… Lake of the Axe.\n\nMaking music together since the late nineties with acts such as Country Sedan\, Davyno And The Milers\, 97 South\, Ratlist\, Andy Krenz & the Yokefellow\, and The Offsales\, Lake of the Axe has assembled to fight evil and record a series of albums to tell the tale.\n\nFox and Her\n\n\nIntroducing Fox and Her\, an indie-folk duo comprised of BC raised Lise Read and Nashville rooted\, Fox Brewster.  Their Americana flavoured sound is rich with evocative vocals and steel string rhythms\, giving a taste of something that’s both timeless and feels like coming home.

Amor De Cosmos (born William Alexander Smith) was BC’s own Father of Confederation. However\, in just a handful of years\, De Cosmos was declared legally insane and went on to haunt the taverns of Victoria before dying in bankrupt obscurity. \nWatch star\, Cody Porter\, hurl through different roles before your eyes in a two-act performance written by local writer Richard Kelly Kemmick\, and accompanied by pianist and composer Lindsay Walker. \n__________________________________________________________________ \nAndrew Collins Trio  \nFolk/Jazz/Chamber Music \n \n90 minute performance; two 45 minute sets with 20 minute intermission  \nThursday\, November 23\, 2023\, 7:30PM \nMiners Hall\, 1765 Columbia Ave\, Rossland \nThe mercurial\, 5x JUNO nominated/7x Canadian Folk Music Award winning mando maestro Andrew Collins finds himself – through no actual fault of his own – at the epicentre of Canada’s acoustic/roots music scene. He didn’t invent it – but he’s certainly a major contributor\, having co-founded seriously noteworthy Canadian bands like the Creaking String Quartet\, the Foggy Hogtown Boys and now\, the Andrew Collins Trio. \nAs he gathers up innumerable awards and nominations by these various ensembles\, Collins\, who’s comfortable on mandolin\, fiddle\, guitar\, mandola and mandocello – is zeroing in on the work he does with his beloved trio: fellow string guru Adam Shier\, whose versatility shines through on guitar\, mandolin\, vocals\, and in-the-pocket James McEleney\, holding it down on the bass\, mandocello and vocals. \nShowcasing a popular collision of trailblazing roots\, folk\, chambergrass and jazz\, not to mention a dizzying number and energetic interplay of instruments on stage\, Collins and Co. appear to live by the old adage\, “idle hands are the devil’s workshop” likely keeping them just ahead of his grasp. Bending and blending genres\, these musical shapeshifters land somewhere between the re-imagined worlds of Béla Fleck and Newgrass invader\, David Grisman. \n__________________________________________________________________\n \nPayadora Tango Ensemble \nArgentinian/Uruguayan Tango & Folk Music \nMarch 26\, 2024\, 7:00PM \nMiners Hall\, 1765 Columbia Ave\, Rossland \nAll ages  \nPayadora is an award-winning ensemble of vocalist\, violin\, bandoneon\, bass and piano that performs its own arrangements of a core repertoire drawing from Argentinian/Uruguayan Tango and Folk music (tangos\, milongas\, waltzes\, folk music such as Zamba and chacarera)\, as well as original songs inspired by that tradition; a group that’s endorsed by the Argentinian Consulate in Toronto for their adherence to the spirit of tango.   \nMade up of a group of players who are each musical powerhouses in their own right\, this “superstar group” has combined their deep knowledge of tango with their classical\, jazz and world music backgrounds to create something entirely new. With Rebekah Wolkstein (violin\, vocals)\, Drew Jurecka (bandoneon\, violin\, mandolin)\, Joseph Phillips (double bass\, guitar) Robert Horvath (piano) and Elbio Fernandez (vocals)\, their performances convey joy\, virtuosity\, humour and their intense passion for the music that they play.   \n
