The show is on Sunday\, March 1 at 3:00 pm in The Bailey Theatre and is part of the TECK Family Series. \nWhere Have All The Buffalo Gone? is a love-story that transcends time as it follows two souls through seven different periods of Métis history. Filled with stories about the Sun Traveller and the Callihoo family\, the performance is a theatre piece that  incorporates fiddle music\, jigging\, and a life-like buffalo puppet.  \nInspired by historical events of the Métis people of Canada\, this original play for young audiences explores the loves\, the losses and the fight of Treaty 6’s Métis people – and their love and kinship to the buffalo. \nThe play takes the audience through the emergence of the Métis Nation across the plains\, then leads into the robust colonization that arises from the fur trade\, the disappearance of the buffalo\, as well as the political uprising of the Métis Association of Alberta in the 1930s. The story starts in creation among the stars and ends in 2024. \nWatch the trailer https://vimeo.com/940939867?p=1s  \n“I loved the play. The play was so so so fun to watch. Axis incorporates combinations of puppetry\, movement\, live music\, red-nose clown\, and improvisation to expand the meaning and impact of the stories presented. It is deceptively simple\, completely fresh\, and memorable. \nAxis Theatre is grateful to live\, work\, and play on the unceded\, traditional territories of the Coast Salish peoples – sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish)\, sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh)\, and xwməθkwəy̓ əm (Musqueam) nations. \nA special thank-you to our sponsors: The Downie-Wenjack and Chris Spencer Foundations \nShow 55 minutes with a 15 min Q&A after the show. \nSingle tickets are $18 or get tickets to all 4 Family Series shows for just $60. Email performance.rcac@gmail.com. \n2026 JUNO WINNING Mi’kmaq fiddler and singer Morgan Toney brings the fiery fiddling of Cape Breton Island with the old songs of the Mi’kmaq People together with brilliance and heart. \n‘First Flight’\, Toney’s 2023 East Coast Music Award-winning debut album\, celebrates language and heritage in Toney’s transformation of traditional songs like the Ko’jua and the Mi’kmaq Honour Song alongside highly original songcraft. \nThe Mi’kmaw were likely the first people that European explorer John Cabot met in 1497 on the East Coast of what would come to be Atlantic Canada. That legacy of welcome lives on in the songs and fiddling of Cape Breton’s breakout roots artist Morgan Toney.  \nWith thousands of years of tradition behind him\, Toney melds the Scottish heritage of this Nova Scotian island with Mi’kmaq songs\, stories\, and language in his own genre of music\, “Mi’kmaltic\,” meaning Mi’kmaq + Celtic. His new album\, ‘Heal the Divide’ (released on March 7th\, 2025 with Indigenous labelIshkōdé Records)\, recognizes the difficult history the L’nuk (Mi’kmaq People) and all First Nations peoples have had in Canada. It also celebrates the L’nu legacy in Canadian culture. It’s part of Toney’s larger vision to bring people together\, to set our differences aside\, and walk toward a place that Tony calls the “Promised Land.”  \nMorgan Toney proudly welcomes the rest of Canada and the world to L’nu traditions as they contain many universal teachings.  \nHe is joined by fellow Musician Ryan Roberts. Together\, they have created a fusion of Culture\, a bridge between two worlds\, and a path ahead for Truth and Reconciliation. \n\nhttps://www.morgantoneymusic.com/ \nDream Catcher- Morgan Toney \nKo’jua – Morgan Toney \nMi’kmaq Honour Song \n

SUMMARY:The Poetic Body with Larval Mask Worshop with Elaine Weryshko
DESCRIPTION:May 16th and 17th\, 2026 \n10:00 AM – 5:00 PM each day \nThe Lily May Room at the Rossland Miners Hall \nRegistration Fee: $50  \nLooking for something fun to do this May long weekend? The Rossland Council for Arts and Culture is excited to present The Poetic Body with Larval Mask Workshop\, led by Winlaw resident Elaine Weryshko! \nEnter the strange\, simple\, and magnetic world of Larval Masks. Rooted from the winter carnival of Basel\, Switzerland and reimagined by Jacques Lecoq\, these oversized\, beginnings of life masks are a gateway to embodiment\, archetype\, non-verbal storytelling and dream space. This is physical poetry\, where breath\, stillness\, and silhouette speak louder than words. \nLarval work sharpens the performer’s ability to explore presence; by stripping back\, listening with the body\, and building story from tension\, space\, and rhythm with the unknown. \nIdeal for performers\, educators\, writers\, and anyone curious about the full-body language beneath text. The full-faced mask is a revelation and invitation to encounter the architecture of play and possibility. \nJoin this amazing 12-hours over two days workshop for just $50! Registration below. \nThis workshop is a part of our new series\, May Music & More. For more information about the other events in the series\, please see our events page. \nAll ages\, but 18+ recommended.

Licensed. \nAfter having to cancel their performance in Rossland during Blizzard Music Festival 2026\, we have some amazing news: Tonye Aganaba is officially coming to Rossland this May to play in the RCAC’s new series\, May Music & More! \nTonye Aganaba is a Black African queer\, disabled and non-binary immigrant and uninvited settler living on the unceded ancestral territories of the Musqueam\, Squamish & Tsleil-Waututh First Nations. \nThey were born in London\, England – the belly of the beast and the stronghold of imperialism\, colonialism and racial capitalism\, and immigrated to so-called Canada at the age of 13. They proudly trace their ancestral line to the lands known today as Nigeria and Zimbabwe. \nTonye is an interdisciplinary artist and musician – and their style is dynamic and fluid – weaving playful threads of Soul\, Neo-Folk\, Funk\, Hip-Hop and R&B. \nTheir shows\, gatherings\, and workshops are connected and intimate experiences\, and evoke a kind of vulnerability that we all hunger for. They are a steadfast fixture in their local arts community – and a passionate and political being. \nWhen they’re not on stage or in the studio – they’re actively unlearning and re-learning as a community worker and organizer working in solidarity with oppressed peoples and in defense of the planet\, in an effort to decolonize body\, mind\, spirit and space. You can find them organizing with Defund 604 Network\, Community Accountability Project\, Ethos Lab\, and Cops Out Of Schools – four collectives based in so-called Vancouver that are dedicated to creating safe and healthy spaces for all. \nTake a taste of their talent below:  \nhttps://www.tonyemusic.com/ \n Tonye – Villain (Official Audio) \n Tonye Aganaba – We Ain’t Friends LIVE at Blue Light Sessions \nThis performance is a collaboration between the Rossland Council for Arts and Culture and Blizzard Music Festival. \nAll tickets bought for the cancelled performance in January are valid for this show\, including 2025/2026 Performance Series Seasons Passes.
