SUMMARY:The Poetic Body with Larval Mask Worshop with Elaine Weryshko
DESCRIPTION:May 16th and 17th\, 2026 \n10:00 AM – 5:00 PM each day \nThe Lily May Room at the Rossland Miners Hall \nRegistration Fee: $50  \nLooking for something fun to do this May long weekend? The Rossland Council for Arts and Culture is excited to present The Poetic Body with Larval Mask Workshop\, led by Winlaw resident Elaine Weryshko! \nEnter the strange\, simple\, and magnetic world of Larval Masks. Rooted from the winter carnival of Basel\, Switzerland and reimagined by Jacques Lecoq\, these oversized\, beginnings of life masks are a gateway to embodiment\, archetype\, non-verbal storytelling and dream space. This is physical poetry\, where breath\, stillness\, and silhouette speak louder than words. \nLarval work sharpens the performer’s ability to explore presence; by stripping back\, listening with the body\, and building story from tension\, space\, and rhythm with the unknown. \nIdeal for performers\, educators\, writers\, and anyone curious about the full-body language beneath text. The full-faced mask is a revelation and invitation to encounter the architecture of play and possibility. \nJoin this amazing 12-hours over two days workshop for just $50! Registration below. \nThis workshop is a part of our new series\, May Music & More. For more information about the other events in the series\, please see our events page. \nAll ages\, but 18+ recommended.

SUMMARY:Tonye Aganaba
DESCRIPTION:The Re-scheduled Performance of Tonye Aganaba! \nSaturday\, May 23rd\, 2025 at 7:15pm\nRossland Miners Hall Performance Hall\nLength: 2 x 45-minute sets with a 15-minute intermission in between\nConcession & Bar preshow\, intermission and postshow. Licensed. \nAfter having to cancel their performance in Rossland during Blizzard Music Festival 2026\, we have some amazing news: Tonye Aganaba is officially coming to Rossland this May to play in the RCAC’s new series\, May Music & More! \nTonye Aganaba is a Black African queer\, disabled and non-binary immigrant and uninvited settler living on the unceded ancestral territories of the Musqueam\, Squamish & Tsleil-Waututh First Nations. \nThey were born in London\, England – the belly of the beast and the stronghold of imperialism\, colonialism and racial capitalism\, and immigrated to so-called Canada at the age of 13. They proudly trace their ancestral line to the lands known today as Nigeria and Zimbabwe. \nTonye is an interdisciplinary artist and musician – and their style is dynamic and fluid – weaving playful threads of Soul\, Neo-Folk\, Funk\, Hip-Hop and R&B. \nTheir shows\, gatherings\, and workshops are connected and intimate experiences\, and evoke a kind of vulnerability that we all hunger for. They are a steadfast fixture in their local arts community – and a passionate and political being. \nWhen they’re not on stage or in the studio – they’re actively unlearning and re-learning as a community worker and organizer working in solidarity with oppressed peoples and in defense of the planet\, in an effort to decolonize body\, mind\, spirit and space. You can find them organizing with Defund 604 Network\, Community Accountability Project\, Ethos Lab\, and Cops Out Of Schools – four collectives based in so-called Vancouver that are dedicated to creating safe and healthy spaces for all. \nTake a taste of their talent below:  \nhttps://www.tonyemusic.com/ \n Tonye – Villain (Official Audio) \n Tonye Aganaba – We Ain’t Friends LIVE at Blue Light Sessions \nThis performance is a collaboration between the Rossland Council for Arts and Culture and Blizzard Music Festival. \nAll tickets bought for the cancelled performance in January are valid for this show\, including 2025/2026 Performance Series Seasons Passes.

SUMMARY:Shirley Gnome & Parlour Panther
DESCRIPTION:Who Is Shirley Gnome?  \nShirley Gnome is a Canadian singer-comedian and cabaret musician based in Vancouver/Montreal. Known for her funny\, taboo\, and irreverent songs\, she straddles the line between musician and comedian with a distinctly theatrical style. Her original songs span genres\, from country and folk to R&B\, soul\, electronic pop\, and indie rock. Her latest album\, Live Bare & Natural\, and its companion comedy special were released in March 2025. Whether in an intimate cabaret or on a major international stage\, Shirley Gnome delivers a fearless and unforgettable performance – singing truth to power\, one laugh at a time. \nWhat can you expect from a Shirley Gnome show? \nShirley Gnome delivers a high-energy musical comedy experience that blends sharp satire\, irreverent humour\, and powerful vocals. Themes often explore sexuality\, identity\, and societal norms\, offering a refreshing take on subjects we often shy away from. Audiences can expect playful banter\, witty improvisation\, and interactive moments\, making each performance feel unique. Her shows combine theatrical flair and expressive physical comedy\, enhancing the storytelling of her songs. While comedic\, Shirley moves fluidly between humour\, poignancy\, and vulnerability\, creating an emotional arc alongside the laughs. At the heart of Shirley’s music is a bold\, inclusive energy – creating a space where all identities are celebrated\, discomfort transforms into laughter\, and taboo topics are met with joy and candour.  \nWho is the audience? \nA wide range of ages and backgrounds enjoy the shows – women aged 18-70\, LGBTQIA2S+ folks\, and couples on date night in particular. Her show is also a big hit with those celebrating special occasions (birthdays\, anniversaries\, etc). The loose\, nightlife environment created by her cabaret style show encourages younger people to venture out to the theatre\, some for the first time. \nShirley will be performing with the band Parlour Panther\, a nonbinary-led four-piece indie rock band from Vancouver\, known for their rich vocal harmonies\, lush guitar tones\, and spacey synths. Over a decade of touring\, Parlour Panther has become a fan-favourite on the Canadian festival circuit\, earning repeat invites to festival stages at Khatsahlano\, ArtsWells\, Rogue Arts\, and Vancouver Jazz. \nCome see this amazing show at the Rossland Miners Hall on Sunday\, September 27th\, 2026! \nA 19+ only event.  \nDiscounted Early Bird tickets for this show are on sale from May 29th\, 2026 until June 30th\, 2026 on our website for only $30 each! Regular tickets will go on sale in August. \nThis performance is the first show in the Rossland Council for Arts and Culture’s Performance Series 2026/2027. SUMMARY:The Wardens
DESCRIPTION:The Wardens don’t just sing about the land\, they’re part of it. \nThe Rocky Mountain-based band’s stories and songs rise from the very land they’ve protected as Canadian national park wardens collectively for over 50 years. With haunting three-part harmonies and chilling tales\, the band’s mountain music – blending folk\, roots and western styles – reflects Canada’s protected wilderness areas. Celebrating the return of wild buffalo\, wrangling grizzly bears\, lonely nights on the packtrail and reflecting on an environment in crisis\, a performance by The Wardens has been dubbed “the quintessential mountain-culture concert experience.” \nThe band have performed widely across western Canada and in the US from Alaska to California. They’ve shared the stage with Blue Rodeo\, Pharis & Jason Romero and Ian Tyson and performed at Folk Alliance International\, Canmore Folk Festival’s main stage and for a royal audience in Edmonton\, Alberta. \nFollowing the 2021 release of their third full-length album Sold Out at the Ironwood\, band member Ray Schmidt was nominated Traditional Singer of the Year by the Canadian Folk Music Awards. The band has also received numerous regional nominations including 2022 Touring Artist of the Year by the BC Touring Council (now BC Live) and Album of the Year by Country Music Alberta. \nAlong with band members Scott Ward and Scott Duncan\, Ray will be performing as part of The Wardens at the Rossland Miners Hall on Saturday\, April 3rd\, 2027! \nDiscounted Early Bird tickets for this show are on sale from May 29th\, 2026 until June 30th\, 2026 on our website for only $30 each! Regular tickets will go on sale in August. \nThis performance is the final show in the Rossland Council for Arts and Culture’s Performance Series 2026/2027.
