DESCRIPTION:The Rossland Council for Arts and Culture Performance Series presents \nRoyce Rich accompanied by Joseph Stacy\nSaturday\, December 14th \nDoors at 7pm\, Start 7:30pm\nRossland Miners Hall \nWorld renowned violinist\, Royce Rich\, is establishing himself as one of Canada’s up-and-coming concert artists.  In July 2021\, he was listed as one of CBC Music’s “Top 30 Under 30 Hot Musicians” for the release of his self-produced debut Spotify album of show pieces entitled Short Stories. In July 2015\, Royce was awarded the coveted Gabora Prize in Italy at the Casalmaggiore International Festival\, and has since appeared on concert stages as a solo artist and chamber musician across Canada\, the USA\, Italy\, and Germany.  \nHe has performed as guest artist with the Brampton Symphony Orchestra\, Lions Gate Sinfonia Orchestra\, Durham Chamber Orchestra\, Smazal Chamber Orchestra\, and twice with the Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra. Throughout the summer of 2023\, Royce was co-concertmaster of the National Academy Orchestra – Canada’s top training orchestra for up-coming professional orchestral musicians.   \nOrchestral playing is one of Royce’s first loves. Throughout 2024\, Royce was invited to assume the position of Principal Second Violinist of the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra in Ontario. DESCRIPTION:The Rossland Council for Arts and Culture Performance Series presents \nNewberry and Verch \nJoin us at the Miners Hall November 10th to fall in love with a folk duo (complete with step dancing!) who will make you laugh and shimmy in your seat! \nIn a Newberry & Verch show\, delighted audiences see first-hand the roots of their music\, their love of performing\, and their strong musical connection. Original songs join timeless classics. Stories warm the heart\, and give audiences a chance to understand where the music comes from. Lively fiddle and banjo numbers combine with traditional dance steps to illustrate happy times when people made their own fun. \nJoe Newberry comes from a family of singers and dancers. He took up the guitar and banjo as a boy and learned fiddle tunes from great Missouri fiddlers.  \nApril Verch grew up listening to her Dad’s country band play for dances in the Ottawa Valley. DESCRIPTION:The Rossland Council for Arts and Culture Performance Series presents \n88 Strings – Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra\n \nTwo 45-minute acts with 20-minute intermission \n88 Strings is a Canadian quartet that mixes traditional Chinese\, Persian and Western plucked instruments\, presenting new musical inventions and adventures written or arranged specifically for the group.  \nDescribed by an audience member as “plucked string heaven\,” 88 Strings’ unique sound blends classical and world music together into enveloping and often hypnotic music. 

 \nThe ensemble was formed as an initiative of the Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra (VICO) in 2020\, who sponsored their first activities giving composer workshops and concerts. 

88 Strings’ first performances took place during VICO’s “The Longest Night: Music For Solstice” in December 2020. \nThe Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra was founded in 2001 and is one of the world’s first concert orchestras devoted specifically to performing new intercultural music on a grand scale. This youth workshop\, with only 12 spaces available\, promises a unique and creative experience for all participants. Register early to secure your spot! \nWorkshop Details: \n\nDate: August 10\, 2024\nTime: 1pm to 4pm\nLocation: Rossland Museum and Discovery Centre\nInstructor: Heather Harwood\n\nDuring the workshop\, participants will be upcycling thrifted fabrics into beautiful lanterns by creating prints with leaves and flowers. These beautiful printed fabrics will then be sewn around a hoop made from the top of a recycled yogurt container. Each lantern will be completed with a small light\, and if time allows\, beads and thread for added embellishment. \nAll art supplies will be provided. \nAbout Heather: Heather is a skilled artist based in Rossland\, BC\, specializing in fiber arts and muralism. She first learned muralism from masters in Estelí\, Nicaragua\, and recently completed a mural with the Seven Summits Centre for Learning. Heather’s latest curriculums focus on textiles and fiber arts\, emphasizing projects made from locally found materials in nature\, thrift stores\, or recycling centers. She holds a bachelor’s degree in education\, majoring in arts and math\, and teaches at both Seven Summits and SD20 High Schools. \nHeather has been making art for most of her life and feels fortunate to have taught various art classes in many interesting places. DESCRIPTION:Argentinian/Uruguayan Tango & Folk Music \nRebekah Wolksein (violin/vocals)\, Drew Jurecka (bandoneon/violin/vocals)\, Joseph Phillips (bass)\, Robert Horvath (piano)\, Elbio Fernandez (vocals) \nPayadora is an award-winning ensemble of vocalist\, violin\, bandoneon\, bass and piano that performs its own arrangements of a core repertoire drawing from Argentinian/Uruguayan Tango and Folk music (tangos\, milongas\, waltzes\, folk music such as Zamba and chacarera)\, as well as original songs inspired by that tradition; a group that’s endorsed by the Argentinian Consulate in Toronto for their adherence to the spirit of tango.   \nMade up of a group of players who are each musical powerhouses in their own right\, this “superstar group” has combined their deep knowledge of tango with their classical\, jazz and world music backgrounds to create something entirely new.
