SUMMARY:Payadora Tango Ensemble
DESCRIPTION:Argentinian/Uruguayan Tango & Folk Music \nRebekah Wolksein (violin/vocals)\, Drew Jurecka (bandoneon/violin/vocals)\, Joseph Phillips (bass)\, Robert Horvath (piano)\, Elbio Fernandez (vocals) \nPayadora is an award-winning ensemble of vocalist\, violin\, bandoneon\, bass and piano that performs its own arrangements of a core repertoire drawing from Argentinian/Uruguayan Tango and Folk music (tangos\, milongas\, waltzes\, folk music such as Zamba and chacarera)\, as well as original songs inspired by that tradition; a group that’s endorsed by the Argentinian Consulate in Toronto for their adherence to the spirit of tango.   \nMade up of a group of players who are each musical powerhouses in their own right\, this “superstar group” has combined their deep knowledge of tango with their classical\, jazz and world music backgrounds to create something entirely new. With Rebekah Wolkstein (violin\, vocals)\, Drew Jurecka (bandoneon\, violin\, mandolin)\, Joseph Phillips (double bass\, guitar) Robert Horvath (piano) and Elbio Fernandez (vocals)\, their performances convey joy\, virtuosity\, humour and their intense passion for the music that they play.   \nWith influences from Argentina to Eastern Europe to the great Astor Piazzolla\, Payadora plays the tango like it’s meant to be: sultry\, steamy\, but with grace and precision. You will be entertained!” \n-World + Music Magazine \n  \n“Moving\, heartbreaking…the most memorable release I have ever had the privilege to listen to and review.” \n-Wholenote \n  \nVIDEOS: \n“Charlemos” ft. Elbio Fernandez and Rebekah Wolkstein \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQ2jKiVz6Rg  \n  \nhttp://payadora.com/about \nhttps://www.facebook.com/payadora

SUMMARY:Snowboard Painting Workshop
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nYouth Snowboard Painting Event at Rossland Museum: A Creative Collaboration between RMDC and RCAC \nROSSLAND\, BC – February 5\, 2024 – The Rossland Museum and Discovery Centre (RMDC) is thrilled to announce a unique youth snowboard painting event in collaboration with the Rossland Council for Arts and Culture (RCAC). This exciting event will take place on February 18\, 2024\, at the Rossland Museum\, offering local youth an opportunity to express their creativity through the vibrant medium of snowboard art. \nSponsored by the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance (CKCA) and BC Gaming\, the event aims to foster artistic expression and community engagement among the youth of Rossland. The CKCA and BC Gaming’s support underscores the commitment to empowering local initiatives that promote creativity and cultural enrichment. \nThe highlight of the event will be a hands-on painting workshop led by renowned local artist Cath Ruthven. Ms. Ruthven brings a wealth of artistic expertise to the event\, ensuring participants receive guidance and inspiration to transform their snowboards into unique works of art. \nEvent Details: \n– Date: February 18\, 2024 \n– Time: 2pm to 5pm \n– Location: Rossland Museum and Discovery Centre \nClick here to register.\n  \nArtist Biography – Cath Ruthven \nLay down in the forest and gaze up at the sky and you’ll begin to understand acrylic artist Cath Ruthven’s perspective. She often blends vivid sunsets contrasted by tree silhouettes in simple but lively nature-inspired works. \nThe Kootenay\, BC transplant recognized trees as a symbolic part of her life growing up in Muskoka\, ON\, where the forest was a playground that extended its branches into her life. Now her imaginative trees widen the eyes of children – her biggest little fans – but also many others who are drawn to her brightly-coloured creations. \nCath creates pieces as small as bookmarks and as large as murals. In addition to canvases she paints snowboards\, cymbals and records repurposed as wall hangings\, as well as festival stage backdrops to marry her visual art with live music. To tackle her biggest pieces\, the seamstress sews canvases together\, hangs them in the trees and paints from a ladder. \nAbout Rossland Museum and Discovery Centre (RMDC): \nThe Rossland Museum and Discovery Centre is a hub for exploring the rich history and culture of Rossland and the surrounding region. Committed to community engagement and education\, the RMDC provides diverse programs and events that celebrate the area’s heritage. \nAbout Rossland Council for Arts and Culture (RCAC): \nThe Rossland Council for Arts and Culture is dedicated to fostering the growth of arts and culture in Rossland. Through various initiatives\, the RCAC supports local artists\, cultural events\, and creative projects that contribute to the vibrant cultural tapestry of the community. \nAbout Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance (CKCA): \nThe CKCA is a regional arts and culture funding agency that supports the development of local artists and organizations in the Columbia Basin. By providing financial assistance\, the CKCA plays a crucial role in promoting cultural vibrancy and diversity. \nAbout BC Gaming: \nBC Gaming is committed to supporting community initiatives through funding programs that contribute to the betterment of society. As a proud sponsor of the Youth Snowboard Painting Event\, BC Gaming continues to invest in projects that enhance the quality of life for residents across the province.

SUMMARY:SOLD OUT! The Andrew Collins Trio with opening act: John Wort Hannam
DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT!\n\nThe RCAC Performance Series presents:\nThe Andrew Collins trio with opening act: John Wort Hannam\nAndrew Collins (mandolin/fiddle/guitar/mandola/mandocello)\, Adam Shier (guitar/mandolin/vocals) and James McEleney (bass/mandocello/vocals)\nFolk/Jazz/Chamber Music\n\nDoors open: 7pm\nOpening Act: 30 mins starting at 7:30PM\nHeadliner: 90 minute performance; two 45 minute sets with 15 minute intermission starting at 8pm\nThursday\, November 23\, 2023\, 7:30PM\nMiners Hall\, 1765 Columbia Ave\, Rossland\n\nYou may already know the wildly exploratory and 5x JUNO nom/7x CFMA winning Andrew Collins through his work with The Foggy Hogtown Boys\, the equally mind-bending Creaking Tree String Quartet or the Trio\, itself – but you’ll never put a label on him for his approach to folk\, newgrass\, jazz and even some chamber-oriented roots music. Bending and blending genres\, these musical shape shifters land somewhere between the re-imagined worlds of Béla Fleck and Newgrass invader\, David Grisman.\n\nHis skills on mandolin\, fiddle\, guitar\, mandola\, mandocello and smooth vocals merge with the rich talents of Adam Shier (guitar\, mandolin\, vocals) and James McEleney (bass\, mandocello and harmony vocals) and represent a back-to-basics visitation on what the band does best — spontaneity of the stage and rapid-fire\, improvisational exchanges.\n\nVIDEOS:\n“Backburner” https://youtu.be/ZTqlZnKJ3lg\n“Claire de Lune” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxarXpKd5vc\n“I Drink Whiskey (My Gal Drinks Wine)” https://youtu.be/6XM9pJY2Mdk\nwww.andrewcollinstrio.com\nwww.facebook.com/theandrewcollinstrio\n\nWe are OVER THE MOON to collaborate with the @alpinegrind and bring John Wort Hannam on board in this Performance Series presentation!\n\nIn 2001 John Wort Hannam quit his teaching job and spent 10 months depleting his savings while sat at his kitchen table\, wearing a lucky hat\, writing his first ten songs. Those songs would become his first recording Pocket Full Of Holes\, released in 2003.\nSeventeen years later\, the Alberta musician is releasing his seventh full-length recording Acres Of Elbow Room and has a few feathers in that lucky hat for his first six offerings. Feathers that include a JUNO nomination\, a Canadian Folk Music Award for Best Album of the Year\, a CBC Galaxie Rising Star Award\, a Kerrville Texas New Folk win\, and numerous Western Canadian Music Award and Canadian Folk Music Award nominations.\n\nHis recent album “Long Haul” just won TWO 2023 CFMA Awards!
