Beginner Painting Workshop with Stephanie Gauvin

Learn the fundamentals of painting in this engaging two-day workshop with Stephanie Gauvin! Designed for beginners, this workshop will guide you through basic techniques and help you build confidence in your artistic abilities. Stephanie’s approachable teaching style makes this the perfect introduction to the world of painting.

• Time: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
• Location: Lily May Room
• Cost: $150 ($125 for RACS and RCAC Members)
• Spaces: Limited to 15 participants

What to Expect:

This workshop is designed to help you explore and develop your painting skills in a supportive and fun environment. On Saturday, we’ll focus on foundational skills like colour mixing and complete some guided exercises. On Sunday, you’ll work on a step-by-step painting project, selecting from one of three inspiring images.

Workshop Schedule:

Saturday, February 1

• Morning Session: Introduction to Colour Mixing and Getting Acquainted with the Colour Wheel
• Afternoon Session: Follow-Along Painting Exercises

Sunday, February 2

• Morning Session: Guided Painting Techniques
• Afternoon Session: Step-by-Step Painting Project (Choose from 3 image options)

Materials:

Materials will be provided for all attendees, but we understand that some participants may prefer to bring their own supplies. Below is the list of materials needed for the workshop:

• 4 Canvas (12”x12” or similar size)
• Sketchbook or Paper Pad
• Pencils
• Paintbrushes (at least 3 different sizes)
• Acrylic Paint:
  • Titanium White
  • Primary Yellow or Cadmium Yellow
  • Primary Red or Cadmium Red
  • Magenta
  • Ultramarine Blue
  • Turquoise Blue
  • Black
• Paper Towel Roll
• Water Container
• Mixing Plates (you can use disposable paper plates)

For those bringing their own paints, a recommended brand is Liquitex Basics (Student Grade), which can be found at Cowan’s in Nelson or ordered online at canada.michaels.com.
