Improving Accessibility in Arts and Culture
The Rossland Council for Arts and Culture is undertaking a multi-phase project focused on improving accessibility within our organization and supporting more inclusive arts, culture and community activities in Rossland.
Through this project, we have an opportunity to explore accessibility improvements at the Rossland Miners Hall while also developing tools, resources and practices that can help reduce barriers to participation. Our goal is to better understand how people experience our programs and community spaces, and to use what we learn to guide meaningful and practical improvements.
We are currently in the first phase of the project, which is focused on planning, consultation and gathering information. We are working with consultants to assess the Rossland Miners Hall and identify possible improvements to the building and its arts and event spaces. We are also working with an accessibility consultant to gather feedback from the community and better understand local experiences, needs and priorities.

Phase One: Consultation, Assessment and Planning
The first phase of the project is focused on gathering information and developing a clear plan for future accessibility improvements. This phase includes:
Community consultation: Gathering feedback about accessibility experiences, barriers and priorities related to RCAC programs, arts and culture activities, and the Rossland Miners Hall.
Electrical review: Reviewing the Miners Hall’s existing electrical systems and capacity to understand what may be required to support future accessibility and technology upgrades.
Sound equipment review: Assessing the existing sound equipment and identifying opportunities to improve the experience for people with different hearing and sensory needs.
Heritage consultation: Working with a heritage consultant to ensure potential improvements respect the history, character and heritage requirements of the Rossland Miners Hall.
Detailed plan development: Bringing the findings and recommendations together into a practical plan to guide the next phases of the project.
