Illuminate Your Creativity at Lantern Making Workshop

Rossland Arts Centre Society and Rossland Council for Arts and Culture invite the community to a captivating Lantern Making Workshop on January 25, taking place in the Ecole Sept Sommet Art Room. Perfectly timed for the upcoming winter carnival parade, this event promises a delightful blend of artistry and festivity.

Led by the talented Myra Rasmussen, the workshop offers participants a unique opportunity to craft their own lanterns, adding a luminous touch to the winter celebrations. Myra’s expertise in the arts ensures an engaging and enjoyable experience for all attendees.

This community event is open to the public, welcoming individuals of all ages and skill levels to join in the creative process. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or a beginner, the Lantern Making Workshop provides a space for everyone to express their artistic flair.

Please note that registration is limited, so secure your spot early! There is a $10 registration fee, which includes all materials needed for the lantern-making experience. There are two 45 minute workshops beginning at 3:15pm and 4:15pm.

Myra Rasmussen is a community engaged artist, who focuses on the role of festivals and celebrations in bringing people together. Originally trained in sculpture, she graduated from Wesleyan University in 2004, where she was awarded a degree in studio arts with high honors.  Since 2009, she has been based in Nelson, British Columbia, where she is the artistic director of the Polka Dot Dragon Arts Society, which focuses on creating multidisciplinary events that link the arts, nature, and community.  In addition to her work with festivals, she also has extensive experience with lino and woodblock printmaking and is part of the ink + moon calendar collective.  She teaches in schools through the ArtStarts program and at the Oxygen Art Centre.
