Who Is Shirley Gnome?
Shirley Gnome is a Canadian singer-comedian and cabaret musician based in Vancouver/Montreal. Known for her funny, taboo, and irreverent songs, she straddles the line between musician and comedian with a distinctly theatrical style. Her original songs span genres, from country and folk to R&B, soul, electronic pop, and indie rock. Her latest album, Live Bare & Natural, and its companion comedy special were released in March 2025. Whether in an intimate cabaret or on a major international stage, Shirley Gnome delivers a fearless and unforgettable performance – singing truth to power, one laugh at a time.
What can you expect from a Shirley Gnome show?
Shirley Gnome delivers a high-energy musical comedy experience that blends sharp satire, irreverent humour, and powerful vocals. Themes often explore sexuality, identity, and societal norms, offering a refreshing take on subjects we often shy away from. Audiences can expect playful banter, witty improvisation, and interactive moments, making each performance feel unique. Her shows combine theatrical flair and expressive physical comedy, enhancing the storytelling of her songs. While comedic, Shirley moves fluidly between humour, poignancy, and vulnerability, creating an emotional arc alongside the laughs. At the heart of Shirley’s music is a bold, inclusive energy – creating a space where all identities are celebrated, discomfort transforms into laughter, and taboo topics are met with joy and candour.
Who is the audience?
A wide range of ages and backgrounds enjoy the shows – women aged 18-70, LGBTQIA2S+ folks, and couples on date night in particular. Her show is also a big hit with those celebrating special occasions (birthdays, anniversaries, etc). The loose, nightlife environment created by her cabaret style show encourages younger people to venture out to the theatre, some for the first time.
Shirley will be performing with the band Parlour Panther, a nonbinary-led four-piece indie rock band from Vancouver, known for their rich vocal harmonies, lush guitar tones, and spacey synths. Over a decade of touring, Parlour Panther has become a fan-favourite on the Canadian festival circuit, earning repeat invites to festival stages at Khatsahlano, ArtsWells, Rogue Arts, and Vancouver Jazz.
